What is paraskevidekatriaphobia?

What is paraskevidekatriaphobia?

Here's your cure for fear of Friday the 13th

Paraskevidekatriaphobia. It's no supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, but for those with a fear of Friday the 13ths it could mean relief from suffering up to three times per year.

Yep. Turn your head toward your wall calendar or rip off Thursday on your 365 "Quote of the Day" desktop tablet. It's Friday the 13th.

NPR reports that those who have a propensity for extreme superstition leading them to fear Fridays falling on the 13th of the month have paraskevidekatriaphobia. Thankfully the cure is simple: learn to say paraskevidekatriaphobia.

Listen to NPR pronounce it here if you need help:

There is apparently another name for this disorder as well. Last year, NRP called it friggatriskaidekaphobia.

To be safe, you should learn how to say both. As for me, I'll won't be looking over my shoulder today or avoiding any black cats.

Note: I'll be sure to update this post if karma deals me a raw hand for writing flippantly for those who truly fear Friday the 13th.
