Newt Gingrich will now end his campaign for president on Wednesday, according to CNN, despite initial reports the former House Speaker would suspend his bid on Tuesday.
A senior campaign staffer had said Gingrich would "more than likely" endorse Mitt Romney when he drops out. The two spoke by phone last week, a Gingrich spokesman told CNN.
Gingrich previously said he would remain in the presidential race until the GOP convention in August. Despite a surge in late 2011, he failed to capture any real momentum once primary season began.
