TSA's (not so) funny home videos #5001 - wheelchair-bound granny swabbed for explosives

The Twitter post that alerted me to the video below reads "The terrorists win!"

The "Anthony" half of SiriusXM's Opie & Anthony radio show was in the Security line at Newark's (ironically-named) LIBERTY Airport when he spotted the outrageous actions seen on this video. Watch as TSA agents go overboard in checking an elderly, wheelchair-bound woman. They even swab her chair for explosive residue!  Did they think granny was "sitting on a secret?"

As Mr. Cumia's hashtag states - Profiling works!  Let's use it.

How does this happen?  Perhaps the better question is... How does this continue to happen?

Well, we allow it. Just as we allow the incompetence of the TSA to continue. Last week we learned that the TSA can't fire people fast enough! In the middle of the worst employment crisis in generations, the TSA is one of the rare groups that is still hiring. However, this government agency just can't seem to make get the background checks done in a timely fashion. So at some airports, the government is allowing people to start working BEFORE a background check can be finished!

So, while overreaching TSA agents are busy groping grannies and making toddlers cry, comes the news that background checks can't be done in a timely fashion and in some airports, potential employees are allowed to start working before they have been properly vetted.

I am reminded of the old saying about terrorists and our efforts to stop them:

We have to be right every time, the terrorists only have to be right once.

Finish the background checks before people are allowed inside the system.  And start profiling!
