Gay Republican group GOProud has endorsed Mitt Romney for president after blasting the former Massachusetts governor in a highly critical press release last month.
“The truth is that this election is too important to wait or to sit on the sidelines,” Executive Director JimmY LaSalvia said in the release. “We plan on spending every day between now and November working to make Obama a one term President.”
Following Romney's public rebuke of President Barack Obama's support of same-sex marriage in May, LaSalvia released a statement that said Romney's "message to Goldwater conservatives is: drop dead." It continued, "falling into the culture war trap laid by Obama is a guaranteed electoral loser."
We asked LaSalvia what happened between then and now for Romney to gain his support. He simply referred us back to the press release which indicated that the GOProud board members' decision to support Romney was not a unanimous one. LaSalvia's individual vote, however, was in support of Romney.
"As far as specifics on our political plans this year, I will have further announcements later this summer as we put those plans in place."
