This week's Real History piece focused on the history of the Medal of Honor – originally an idea that did not have a lot of popular support, only to soon become the military’s highest honor, and its recipients symbols of heroism and the highest standard bearers of patriotism.
Our most recent wars have seen only 3 living medal of honor recipients – the least in the history of the award. Despite many acts of heroism that would have qualified previously, the medal is not awarded. Why?
