Donald Trump really hopes people will keep asking about him and his convention plans

The threat of tropical storm Isaac led the Republican officials to cancel the first day of the party's convention. That was apparently the day Donald Trump had planned for his "big surprise," so a spokesman said he wouldn't be coming down.

“The RNC cancelled Monday. Mr. Trump will not be in Tampa,” Michael Cohen, Trump’s spokesman, told the Washington Post.

...But!

Trump told USA TODAY that he had returned to New York after attending an event on Sarasota, where he picked up a "Statesman of the Year" award from the Sarasota Republican Party on Sunday.

"They have asked us to come back," Trump said, but due to scheduling conflicts he wasn't sure whether he would be able to return. "My schedule is really tough."

USA Today also says a Romney campaign strategist told reporters this morning, "Just because he's here doesn't mean he's not going to show up." (Which makes absolutely no sense but we'll keep an eye on Trump.)
