MSNBC Analyst Cracks Joke Seemingly Calling GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham a Woman

An MSNBC analyst seemingly joked that male Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is a woman during "Morning Joe" on Wednesday.

John Heilemann, co-author of the book "Game Change" about the 2008 presidential race and an editor at New York Magazine, made the comment during a discussion about Graham's meeting with U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice and fellow Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.). With Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) set to retire, Heilemann said Graham and McCain need a new "third amigo" and have brought in Ayotte.

"They need a third amigo...and now they have — now two of the three are women — now at least one of the three are women," Heilemann said, causing both himself and co-host Joe Scarborough to crack up.

It's unclear if the line was intentional or if Heilemann made a mistake and then caught himself.

TV Newser reported the line was edited out of the show's re-air at 8 a.m.

Heilemann's "Game Change" co-author Mark Halperin was suspended last year after he called President Barack Obama "kind of a dick" on the morning show.
