The local news crew over at Chicago's WGN-TV got duped by a staged plane crash for a TV show and reported it as live breaking news on Friday morning. And it was pretty funny.
The WGN Morning News brought the "breaking news" at around 8 a.m., reporting a "small single engine plane" crash on King Drive of Chicago's south side. The two news anchors, Robin Baumgarten and Larry Potash improvised well and started talking about the potential for injuries and wondered why there was a lack of "frenzied activity" near the crash site.
"We haven't seen any ambulances, we see a firetruck," Baumgarten said. "Man, can you imagine, you're driving down King Drive and a plane comes down in the middle of the road."

Then came the realization, provided by the news producer over IFB, that the crash was staged for a TV show and completely fake.
"They might want to tell the news folks when they are doing this and shutting down King Drive," Baumgarten said. "Are you kidding me?"
"It's for a show nobody watches on NBC," Potash joked.
Well, lucky for them, a lot more people are watching Chicago's WGN-TV today via YouTube.
