Former Israeli Intel Chief: Iran Has Already Crossed Nuclear 'Red Line

The former head of Israel's military intelligence said Iran has essentially already crossed the "red line" set for their nuclear development and is now at a critical stage.

“For all intents and purposes, Iran has crossed Israel’s red line…in the summer, Iran will be a month or two away from deciding about a bomb," retired Major Gen. Amos Yadlin said Tuesday at a security conference in Tel Aviv, according to The Times of Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu famously drew a red line over an image of a bomb during a speech to the United Nations in September.

According to the Times, Yadlin said that unless there's a dramatic increase in international pressure on Iran, they will continue to move forward with their nuclear program.

“There won’t be an agreement if there isn’t a price for [not] reaching one,” he said.

Yadlin said Israel and its allies have until Iran's elections in June to decide on a military option, and said he was confident Israel could conduct a military operation without direct U.S. help.

Israel has said repeatedly that a nuclear-armed Iran is not an option. Still, the issue took somewhat of a backseat during U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel's first visit to the Jewish state this week, which was largely overshadowed by the current threat from Syria.
