Obama's Approval Rating on These Three Issues Has Tanked

These three issues “are perhaps the ones that will dominate Washington on a domestic scale for the foreseeable future.”

A growing number of Americans say they disapprove of President Obama's handling of the economy, gun control, and immigration reform, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University.

In fact, according to the poll released on Wednesday, at least 10 percent more disapprove than approve of the president’s performance on these three key issues.

From Business Insider’s  Brett LoGiurato:

  • On the economy, 53 percent disapprove of Obama's job performance, while only 41 percent approve.
  • Obama's approval rating on "gun policy" is also 41 percent. Meanwhile, 52 percent disapprove.
  • And as the immigration debate continues to flare on Capitol Hill, only 40 percent approve of Obama's handling of the issue. Fifty percent disapprove.

Now, as LoGiurato rightly notes, these three issues “are perhaps the ones that will dominate Washington on a domestic scale for the foreseeable future.”

So unless the Obama administration figures out a way to keep the public permanently distracted with social issues, it may want to recalibrate its way of doing things. Either that or suffer the fate of a low-approval president.

Lastly, here’s an interesting takeaway: Survey respondents said they were more comfortable with Republicans handling the economy and gun control than they were with Democrats. However, when it came to immigration reform, Democrats narrowly beat out Republicans.

Take from that what you will.
