ABC's Sunday news show This Week with George Stephanopoulos is often produced from a studio ABC rents inside the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Al Jazeera America will likely take over the spot when ABC's lease is over at the end of May, according to Broadcasting and Cable magazine.
The report says ABC News already has a Washington Bureau that can house its show, thus the Newseum space is no longer needed. This Week has a separate studio in New York, as well.
As for Al Jazeera America taking This Week's place:
According to a source familiar with the plans of Al Jazeera America (AJAM to insiders) and its ramp-up, confirms that the news net will be building a Washington studio at the Newseum in preparation for its launch later this year.Although a source said that Al Jazeera would have the ABC space only Monday-Friday, they added that ABC would have had to reconfigure and unconfigure it weekly to use the space for the Sunday show.
Unlike ABC, Al Jazeera will have both office space and editing facilities at the Newseum according to a source there.
The Newseum also has a separate smaller studio that it rents out. Al Jazeera has used it in the past.
