Oprah Winfrey said last year that had she known how difficult it would be to launch a cable channel, she "might have done something else." Indeed, the fledgling network sat on dismal ratings for all of 2011 and most of 2012. And there was that Rosie O'Donnell experiment that failed.
OWN is finally shaping up, though, with better ratings and a stronger identity after the former "queen of day-time" landed an interview with Lance Armstrong, who admitted to her that he took performance-enhancing drugs.
But OWN's programming isn't mostly about celebrity scandals. It's positive, self-improvement type stuff. Matt Drudge, editor of the Drudge Report, is a fan.
"BEST TV show Oprah's Super Soul Sunday," Drudge tweeted Monday night. "Brave, futuristic and optimistic in a burning world. Beautifully produced."
Super Soul Sunday is a panel-format talk show hosted by Winfrey herself. The last episode centered on excessive consumption of prescription pills in America.
Update: CNN's Donna Brazile is also a fan of OWN:
Had to mention a little politics. Back to @hbo and @owntv
