You may recall the story of the Josh Welch, an 8-year-old boy who was suspended from school after he chewed his breakfast pastry into the shape of a gun.

He is now a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

The NRA reportedly gave Welch the free membership at a fundraiser Wednesday night for Anne Arundel County Republicans. The membership, which usually costs $550, was awarded during a "tongue-in-cheek presentation" involving a gun-shaped Pop-Tart and gun safety tips, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Welch was suspended from Park Elementary School in Baltimore on March 1, a distinction that the boy's father is still trying to get wiped from his son's record.

"Everyone keeps asking me why I did it. I don't know why I did it," the boy said, highlighting the obvious fact that he's only a child. "I wish people would stop asking me about it. It'll probably go on for 45 years or something."

Josh also said he didn't know what the NRA was or the membership was for, but he did mention that he was the only person in his family that is a member of the NRA.

"Josh also received an autographed photo of himself with David Keene, the immediate past president of the NRA and the keynote speaker at the fundraiser," the report adds.
