President of the Heritage Foundation and former U.S. Senator Jim DeMint joined Stu Burguiere on the Glenn Beck Program Wednesday to discuss immigration reform, comparing the ramifications of the proposed legislation to another "Obamacare."
"There is no question that giving amnesty to those who came here illegally is going to cost Americans trillions of dollars," DeMint said.
"The costs are very real, and I can't believe that anyone would consider trusting this administration with another bill like Obamacare, and that's what this immigration bill is," he continued.
DeMint explained how the average education of those who came to the country illegally is the equivalent to about 10th grade in the United States, and that more than the economic impacts, there will be ramifications for "our whole system of law."
"Our immigration system should not be built for those who came here illegally," DeMint pointed out. " It needs to be something that benefits Americans, increases their income, their quality of life, and that's not how they're looking at this at all."
And regardless of what promises are currently being made -- that, for instance, the border will be secured at some point in the future -- DeMint said it is "foolish" for anyone to believe this administration will solve the problem in a non-partisan manner.
Any way you cut it, DeMint said, if the current proposal is implemented: "It's going to cost [Americans] a lot of money and opportunity."
