TheBlaze's Buck Sexton just returned from a "fact-finding mission" in the Middle East, where he traveled everywhere from Syrian refugee camps to Egypt's Tahrir Square in an effort to gain a greater perspective of the facts on the ground.
Speaking on Glenn Beck's radio program Monday, Sexton said the world should pay close attention to the demonstrations set to begin on June 28 marking the one-year anniversary of President Morsi's rule.
If the protests grow too wild or out of control, Sexton said, they could potentially lead to a military coup and the end of Morsi's presidency. At a minimum, he said the demonstrations are likely to cause “bloody clashes in Cairo.”
"The military, who sort of has been standing on the sidelines and watching the Muslim Brotherhood completely run this country into the ground, has said [they] might step in," Sexton said. "Well, guess what? If the military steps in, the possibility of an actual coup becomes very high. [But] if they don't step in, you have very powerful factions in this country that are warring on the streets and nothing to stop them."
Sexton said Cairo is "in worse shape than in anyone living's memory," and even people who voted for Morsi spoke to him with "shame in their eyes."
When Beck asked whether Sexton thinks "civil war" or "World War III" appear to be on the horizon, Sexton cautioned the audience to remember that "everything is connected," from the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt to the jihadists in Syria.
"There are plenty of places where there's gasoline on the ground in the Middle East -- it's just a question of what the match is going to be," he concluded.
