The White House in 2012 tried to head off criticism of Valerie Jarrett, President Barack Obama’s right-hand woman, by circulating a memo titled “The Magic of Valerie.”

No, really, in response to an unflattering September 2012 New York Times profile on President Obama’s senior adviser, White House officials compiled a list of 33 talking points regarding Miss Jarrett’s so-called “magic.”

A copy of the memo appears in New York Times reporter Mark Leibovich’s forthcoming book, “This Town: Two Parties and a Funeral-Plus, Plenty of Valet Parking!-in America’s Gilded Capital,” and BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski has the scoop.

The magic of Valerie is her intellect and her heart.
