It's Only Going to Get Worse': National Security Expert Explains Why You Should Care About a Failed State in Egypt

"Every single al-Qaeda leader worth his suicide belt was inspired by the teachings of Muslim Brotherhood ideologues like Hassan al-Banna and Sayyid Qutb."

Terrorism and national security expert Erick Stakelbeck guest hosted The Glenn Beck Program Wednesday, explaining from his perspective what viewers can expect to see from the chaotic Middle East in the coming days and months.

Stakelbeck, whose latest book "The Brotherhood: America's Next Great Enemy" comes out next week, began by noting that that the same people in the U.S. government who helped "to create this whole violent mess in Egypt by backing the Muslim Brotherhood at every turn" are still in power.  "Now Egypt is on fire," he continued, "and it's only going to get worse."

Stakelbeck repeatedly drove the point home that chaos in the Middle East is not only bad for those living in the region -- it has a direct impact on you at home.

Oil prices could skyrocket, he said, particularly if anything happens to the Suez Canal.  And if Egypt - one of the most populous and influential countries in the region - becomes a failed state, do you think we're going to let them starve? The country is a step way from complete disaster, if they're not already there, he said.  If the time comes that millions can no longer afford food after U.S.-supported revolution, there's a good chance your tax dollars are going to the pay bill.

The Muslim Brotherhood, in particular, is important to watch because of their deadly history and terrifying patience, Stakelbeck said.  "Every single al-Qaeda leader worth his suicide belt was inspired by the teachings of Muslim Brotherhood ideologues like Hassan al-Banna and Sayyid Qutb," he argued.  The Islamist organization waited 84 years to be in power; they're not going to go away quietly.

Last time the Muslim Brotherhood was in a similar situation, decades ago, they inflicted a wave of terrorism on Egypt up to and including assassinations, before being crushed by Gamal Abdel Nasser.

"Their backs are up against the wall now once again," he warned.

Diana West, author of "American Betrayal," joined Stakelbeck on the program to explain how the Muslim Brotherhood is working within our own government to influence and shape American policy.

She tied the connections to American history, and other instances of foreign agents working to undermine the nation from within.
