Sum Ting Wong: Asiana Airlines may sue local news station over on-air gaffe

As we reported last week, the rush to confirm details following the crash of Asiana Airlines Flight 214 led one San Francisco Fox affiliate to embarrassingly report false names of the pilots involved, including "Sum Ting Wong" and "Wi Tu Lo."

(How an anchor reads these "names" and doesn't suspect some tomfoolery is beyond me...)

But now, the airline is reportedly considering legal action against KTVU-TV for its "demeaning report" of the July 12 incident. The National Transportation Safety Board may also be implicated in the suit, CNN reports.

“The reputation of the four pilots and of the company had been seriously damaged by this report. The company is reviewing taking legal action against both KTVU-TV and the NTSB,” Asiana said in a statement.

The four pilots onboard Flight 214 have not been publicly identified by authorities, though they reportedly returned home to South Korea over the weekend.
