Bruce Springsteen Dedicates Song for 'Justice for Trayvon Martin

Bruce Springsteen is the latest in a chorus of celebrities to honor Trayvon Martin, dedicating his song "American Skin (41 Shots)" to the slain teenager at a Limerick, Ireland concert on Tuesday, according to The New Jersey Star-Ledger.

"Gonna send this one out as a letter back home," Springsteen told concertgoers, three days after a jury cleared George Zimmerman of murder and manslaughter charges. "For justice for Trayvon Martin."

"American Skin (41 Shots)" was written following the 1999 police shooting death of Amadou Diallo, but Springsteen has taken to invoking Martin's name in the last year. The song's lyrics partially state:

Is it a gun, is it a knife

Is it a wallet, this is your life

It ain't no secret

It ain't no secret

No secret my friend

You get killed just for living

In your American skin

According to a concert recap posted on Springsteen's website, the rocker spotted a sign in the crowd and asked for it to be passed for him. It read, "American Skin (41 Shots)," after which Springsteen announced the dedication and launched into the song.

Springsteen follows pop star Beyonce who held a moment of silence Saturday night after news broke of Zimmerman's acquittal.

In California, soul singer Lester Chambers was reportedly attacked by a woman on stage after dedicating a song to Martin. Police arrested 43-year-old Dinalynn Andrews Potter after she allegedly jumped on stage and yelled "it's all your fault" before pushing the 73-year-old singer down, the San Jose Mercury News reported.
