John McCain: Hey, This Bill May Encourage People to Leave Bigger Tips for Strippers

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) helped introduce a bill last month that would supposedly save the U.S. government billions of dollars by replacing the dollar bill with a dollar coin.

But some are worried the bill will put a financial strain on the country’s “exotic dancers.”

So, what did the Arizona senator have to say when asked about what would happen to “dancers” should singles start disappearing?

“Then I hope that they could obtain larger denominations,” he said, joking/implying the bill may lead to larger tips for strippers.

“The 76-year-old lawmaker began answering another reporter’s prying questions before cracking a smile and hollering … down a Capitol hallway, ‘Fives, tens, one-hundreds!’” Judy Kurtz writes for The Hill’s “In the Know” blog.

Sen. McCain was joined last month by Sens. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), and Mark Udall (D-Colo.) in introducing the COINS Act.

Opponents of the bill include Washington, D.C., strip joints including Archibald’s Gentleman’s Club.

Archibald’s owner Daniel Harris told In the Know in 2011, “I think it would be very awkward for everyone involved. How much more would a coin weigh than a dollar bill? It would be very hard.”

The manager added, “You can’t put a coin in a garter belt.”

No. No you can’t.
