MSNBC Host: Detroit's Bankruptcy Is Making It America's Most Libertarian City

The city of Detroit -- once the epicenter of the auto industry -- filed for Chapter Nine bankruptcy this month after the city’s state-appointed emergency manager decided there was no other option.

And since the filing, several pundits have claimed conservatism is responsible for bringing the city to its knees.

Apparently unsatisfied with these “delusional” accusations, MSNBC’s Ari Melber decided to take it a step further Wednesday and claimed the city’s bankruptcy has put it on the fast track to becoming America’s “most libertarian city.”

What?

“While it suffered for years under mismanagement and corruption under many Democratic officials, today Detroit is fast becoming the most libertarian city in the United States,” he declared.

“Even police and emergency services have literally become optional,” Melber added.

He continued, saying Congress should send emergency financial aid to the city to help it avoid disaster.

“There are a lot of things congress can do,” Melber said, “but if the largest local bankruptcy in our history isn’t the right time for spending on emergency aid and jobs, when is the right time?”

... is what libertarianism looks like?
