F**k DHS': Self-Proclaimed 'Islamist Jihadist' Has Colo. Police on Alert (and He Claims to be an Archangel)

"...claimed he was the Archangel Michael..."

A self-proclaimed "Islamist jihadist" had police and faith leaders on alert in Fort Collins, Colorado, over the weekend. The exact details are unclear and confounding, but church leaders have been asked to keep an eye out for an unnamed man who has purportedly made threats against both Mormons and Catholics.

The man apparently told police that these religious individuals "would be destroyed" in the next two weeks. While the individual wasn't seen in the Fort Collins area as of Sunday and there is allegedly no immediate danger to the community, KUSA-TV reports that authorities have told faith leaders, via a memo, to keep an eye out for any odd behavior.

While the details are somewhat unspecific, here's what we do know about the situation: The man at the center of the odd situation is described as being in his early 30s -- and he has an apparent history with police run-ins. Based on the details known thus far, he also has a detachment from reality. KUSA-TV has more about how police learned about the threats:

...The man was contacted by police Tuesday in Steamboat Springs when an officer reportedly saw him attempting to shoot a video while driving.

Wearing a T-shirt wrapped around his head, and a bandana and sunglasses over his face, the man allegedly told police everyone would know who he was in the next two weeks but didn't elaborate, Steamboat Springs Police Department Sgt. Jeff Wilson said. The man who police say claimed he was the Archangel Michael was spotted leaving Rocky Mountain National Park Thursday, the FCPS memo to religious organizations said.

A vehicle associated with the man is a white Honda coupe on which someone spray-painted "F*** DHS" (Department of Homeland Security) on the trunk, "Rev 14-7" on its side and "YHVH" (Hebrew for god or deity) on the back bumper and hood.

It's unclear how the individual can consider himself both an Islamic extremist and the Archangel Michael, but KDVR-TV reports that the angelic claim was made during a past run-in with police and not in the current scenario. Authorities even seem confused over the theological mix.

"It is somewhat uncommon for someone to partner differing faiths of a focus of their threat," said Matt Johnson of the Fort Collins Police Department.

Adding to the mystery, despite making claims about his own attachment to religion, the man in question is said to have anti-religious slogans painted on his car as well (this differs slightly from the description given by KUSA, which pointed to the inclusion of Bible verses and anti-government sentiment).

Police are encouraging anyone seeing odd behavior to report it immediately.
