The special military unit responsible for operating the U.S.'s arsenal of nuclear missiles failed a safety and security inspection this week, Air Force officials said Tuesday, according to the Associated Press (AP).

Air Foce Lt. Gen. James M. Kowalski told the AP the 341st Missile Wing, located at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, failed the important inspection, but did not disclose when the actual inspection took place.
The Air Force's nuclear weapons force is reportedly responsible for 450 land-based nuclear missiles and is on constant alert for a potential launch at targets around the world.
The Air Force did not immediately return requests for comment Tuesday afternoon from TheBlaze.
