Miami Police Admit Officers Broke Protocol to Provide LeBron James Escort – Here's Why the NBA Star Was in Such a Hurry

The Miami-Dade Police Department said Monday their officers broke protocol Friday night when they provided basketball star LeBron James a police escort so he wouldn't be late to a Jay Z concert.

"[I]t has been confirmed that the Miami-Dade Police Department did facilitate Mr. James from one intersection to another, in the adjacent area of the stadium," a statement reportedly said.

"This was not a scheduled escort and although all safety precautions were taken, the department has identified these actions as a violation of departmental policy," it continued. "The Miami-Dade Police Department will continue to look into this matter."

According to TMZ, Lebron James was stuck in traffic eight blocks away form the venue of the show.

LeBron James posted a video of the escort to his Instagram account:

Police apparently made the decision to offer James an escort because Jay Z refused to start the concert without him present, reported TMZ.

Police reportedly denied involvement in the escort initially.
