Check Out the Basketball Shot That Netted One Kid a Year of Free Tuition
August 26, 2013
"Once I let go of the ball, I knew it was in."
Standing before a crowded arena and successfully landing a half-court shot is the sort of thing most guys dream about.
Winning a year’s worth of free in-state tuition is the sort of thing most parents dream about.
Now meet Colorado State University freshman Andrew Schneeweis: He not only pulled off a half-court shot in front of a crowded stadium, but he also won one year’s worth of in-state tuition courtesy of the CSU Athletics Head Coaches:
The 18-year-old college student made the shot during a “back to school” event.
“I think it was somewhere around 7,000 kids in the gym and they just picked a random seat,” he said.
The freshman’s seat was chosen and he was given three chances to make the shot. It only took him one.
“I was so excited, I was you know thinking, I got to make it happen,” he said. “Once I let go of the ball, I knew it was in. I knew it was going to go in. I have to say that was pretty lucky."
And he says he’s not even much of a basketball player: “I play occasionally with some friends, but never with a team.”
But more than making the shot, the freshman is grateful for the tuition reward: “It’s definitely going to help out with some debt.”
Here’s a local report on the once-in-a-lifetime event:
