Father Who Says He Accidentally Killed Son With BB Gun Will Be Charged With Murder

"He's torn. He's broken by this. Jesse is really a good father."

A father who claims he accidentally shot and killed his one-year old son with a BB gun on Friday morning will be charged with murder, police say.

Jesse Sellers, 23, says he was only trying to scare his 18 month year old son and didn't realize the gun was loaded when he pulled the trigger, according to WXIA-TV.

After shooting the child, neighbors reportedly say the parents ran out of the house screaming for help.

When authorities arrived at the scene the baby was trembling with a visible wound to the chest. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Sellers, who is the father of three other children, will now be charged with felony murder and 2nd degree cruelty to children, according to Atlanta police.

Seller's wife's cousin said the incident has devastated him.

"They were deeply in love," Renee Holmes told WGCL-TV. "He's torn. He's broken by this. Jesse is really a good father."

On Friday night, a memorial was held to remember the child.
