You're One of Those Broke F***ots': Video Captures Gay Man Being Beaten on the Street During Alleged Hate Crime

"Anybody who knows me there are three things you don't mess with? My food, my man and my money."

Police in Cleveland, Ohio, are investigating an attack on a man who was walking to a local gay bar late Saturday night. Jared Fox, the 26-year-old victim, claims that a group of 20 young men beat him as he walked from his car to the establishment.

After approaching him, Fox said that the gang used gay slurs and violently assaulted him, WKYC-TV reports.

"They didn't know if I had money. They didn't know anything about me," the alleged victim told the outlet. "They saw that there was a gay bar at the corner and they saw me walking to it."

After surrounding him, the men punched him in the face and knocked him over, he says. At one point he escaped, but they pushed him down again. When Fox told them that he had no money, they, again, pummeled him.

"You're one of those broke f***ots,'" he recalls them saying before they stole his cell phone and left the scene.

It was then that Fox, who lives in New York City and was in town visiting a relative, was able to seek assistance. In the end, he suffered a black eye, ruptured his right ear drum and was bruised on various parts of his body.

WJW-TV has more details and claims about how it unfolded:

The day after the incident, Fox posted a video on YouTube, detailing his emotions about what happened just hours before.

"Anybody who knows me there are three things you don't mess with? My food, my man and my money," Fox quipped.

While he did joke about the incident, the majority of the video tackled the serious nature of the attack and his reaction to what unfolded. Watch the video, below (caution: language):

Fox is planning to run in a Spartan Race next weekend -- something he was already signed up for before the incident. He is raising money for the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network to bring about safer schools and education and to put a stop to violence.
