War Criminal!': Retired Gen. David Petraeus Harassed, Mocked by New York College Students

"Fascist!"

UPDATE: Sept. 12, 2012 -- Grace Rapkin, director of Marketing and Communications for Macaulay Honors College, sent the TheBlaze the following statement from University Dean Ann Kirschner:

Our university is a place where complex issues and points of view across the political and cultural spectrum are considered and debated in the hopes that we might offer solutions to the problems in our world. In order to advance reasoned debate on such issues, it is important that multiple points of view be heard.

Great universities strive to connect their students with remarkable leaders and thinkers so students can examine a variety of ideas, debate them, and form their own opinions. Those perspectives find expression through discussion in and out of the classroom.

We may disagree, but we must always do so in a spirit of mutual respect and understanding. While the college supports the articulation of all points of view on critical issues, it is essential that dialogue within the academic setting always be conducted civilly.

Well, okay then. That's that.

College-aged anti-war activists have not come a long way since days of the Vietnam War.

For instance, check out this video posted to YouTube Monday of multiple City University of New York students hounding and heckling former CIA director and retired Gen. David Petraeus as he makes his way to his first class.

The audio is jumbled and it's difficult to make out what they're saying, but you can hear shouts of “war criminal!” and “fascist!” clear as a bell.

The retired general never once loses his composure and silently marches ahead to his class.

Again, it’s not entirely clear what, exactly, the CUNY students are trying to accomplish. And based on their disjointed and confused shouting, they may not be sure themselves [Content warning: Video contains multiple profanities]:

According to Business Insider, Petraeus was brought on by the school to teach a course at the honors college titled “Are We on the Threshold of the North American Decade?”

He supposedly agreed to the teaching position as part of a broader strategy to rehabilitate his image following his extramarital affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell.
