Scarborough Lashes Out Over Obama's Econ Speech: Liberals 'Would Be Killing George W.' if He Gave a Partisan Speech Like That During a Tragedy
September 17, 2013
"Everyone here on this network would be killing George W."
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough on Tuesday insisted liberals "would be killing George W." if the former president had given a partisan speech in the midst of a national tragedy like President Barack Obama did on Monday.
The Washington Navy Yard was still on lockdown with police searching for more possible shooters when President Barack Obama vilified Republicans in a speech about the economy. Obama started his previously-scheduled speech with brief remarks about the shooting, but then quickly shifted to targeting members of the GOP.
"On the day where people were hiding, people were bleeding, while people were dying, while the nation was locked in on this, he’s talking about hard partisanship and Republican wanting to hurt people," Scarborough said.
And he seemed stunned by the lack of backlash Obama received for it, compared to what would have happened to his predecessor, George W. Bush.
"Can you imagine what certain people at this network would have said?" Scarborough asked. "[Co-host] Mika [Brzezinski] would be killing George W., everyone here on this network would be killing George W."
Brzezinski did question the "appropriateness" of the speech, and said she was "distracted by the people standing behind him, excited to see the president.”
White House press secretary Jay Carney defended Obama's comments, saying they were still "entirely appropriate" for the day.
