WASHINGTON, DC - SEPTEMBER 26: U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) speaks during a prayer vigile organized by the Christian Defense Coalition outside the White House September 26, 2013 in Washington, DC. Cruz and members of the coalition called for the release of Iranian-American pastor Saeed Abedini from an Iranian prison where he has been held for over a year.

Earlier this week Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said he'd be donating his Senate salary to charity for each day that the government is shut down. We asked his office if it could specify what charity.
A few days later, we have an answer! A spokeswoman for Cruz writes in:
Sen. Cruz has decided to donate his salary during the partial government shutdown to YES Prep a group of charter schools providing an excellent education to low-income children in the Houston area. Sen. Cruz and his wife, Heidi, are long-time supporters of YES Prep.
Cruz joins a line of other congressmen, both Democrats and Republicans, who say they'll either ask that their pay be withheld until the shut down has ended or donate to a charity of their choice.
