NFL Player Says He Became a Christian After Jesus Appeared to Him in a Dream

"...Jesus came into the room and he was just knocking on my door..."

Fans might get chills when they hear Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson describe how he became a Christian.

In "The Making of a Champion," a new video encouraging viewers to embrace the Bible, the NFL player says his pinnacle moment came when he was 14 years old and Jesus Christ appeared to him in a dream and told him to learn more about the faith.

"I had a dream one night I was at ... football camp ... my parents were supposed to pick me up on Sunday to go to church," he said. "I had a dream that my dad passed away and that Jesus came into the room and he was just knocking on my door saying, 'Hey you need to find out more about me.'"

While Wilson's parents regularly took him to church, it was this dream that truly moved him to change his ways.

The next day, Wilson said, he went to church with his parents and was "saved" -- the popular terminology for when an individual formally accepts the Christian faith.

"I think that just that moment of when I realized that dreams are really real, because my dad ended up passing away six years later," Wilson said. "I think that kind of got me through a lot of adversity."

Wilson is among a number of Seattle Seahawks players and coaches who share their life stories in "The Making of a Champion." Clint Gresham, a long snapper, safety Chris Maragos and offensive tackle Russell Okung are also featured, sharing their professional and faith journeys both on and off the field.

The film's Christian message is clear throughout.

After nearly 15 minutes of touching personal stories, Gresham says every individual is a sinner and that Jesus Christ died for mankind. He concludes by encouraging viewers to pray, providing an outline of what they should say if they wish to fully accept Christianity.

"Say Jesus, I invite you into my life. I want to make you Lord of my life," Gresham recited. "I acknowledge that I have sinned, I've messed up and I want to accept what you did on the cross on my behalf, so that I can have fellowship with you."

There are also more generic themes presented in the short documentary as well. The players and coaches focus on true character and goodness, so those who aren't interested in the faith content will still find some relatable elements.

A website set up to advertise "The Making of a Champion" invites viewers to share their own stories and assists them in finding churches in the Seattle area.
