In the Marketplace: Why ‘American Made’ Matters (Part 5 of 5)

Editor’s note: This article was written by Colin Balfe, director of The Marketplace by TheBlaze, and is part of a series of stories highlighting businesses in TheBlaze’s eCommerce channel.

In this five-part series on American-made small businesses, we’ve introduced you to The Marketplace by TheBlaze and our goal of assembling the world’s finest collection of unique small businesses. The Marketplace looks for quality products but more importantly, we look for quality people—entrepreneurs living their own version of the American Dream.

We’ve introduced you to Minuteman Watches, designed, assembled and tested in the U.S. with a portion of profits supporting America’s veterans. We told you about ChristWreath – the ultimate symbol to help put Christ back into Christmas. Part three of the series shared Constitution Quest with you, a smart, engaging and entertaining board game used by teachers and families across America. Part four of the series told you about Nebraska Star Beef, a family-owned small business for generations.

We’ve highlighted the achievements these small businesses have made and we're proud to offer their products in The Marketplace. These small businesses refuse to lower their standards, despite the obstacles they face. Thanks to their commitment, we enjoy the benefits that come from manufacturing within American borders—job creation, less foreign dependence and keeping money circulating in our own country.

While the American-made movement has been around for years, there is an ever-growing list of resources available to support American businesses and manufacturers. Aside from the American Made collection in The Marketplace, we’re pleased to join an array of small businesses, agencies and nonprofit organizations—all dedicated to promoting and continuing the American made movement. We’ve assembled our favorites below:

Maker’s Row: Dedicated to simplifying the manufacturing process, Maker’s Row has compiled an exceptional, visually impressive database of American-made manufacturers. They put USA-made manufactures on the map, literally, with in-depth, location-specific profiles. Maker’s Row manufacturers are divided into two categories: Apparel/Accessories and Furniture/Home Decor, with more industries being added. Discover how it works and why Maker’s Row is one of the best ways to support the American-made movement.

Made in America Movement: The Made in America Movement is dedicated to encouraging consumers to buy American made products. The MAM provides its members with resources to expand their use of USA-made products. They work to connect American manufacturers, suppliers, production companies and distributors across the country and lobby for these businesses, while striving to tell Washington to bring American jobs home.

American Made Matters: This organization’s mission is to educate consumers that buying USA-made products strengthens the American dream. They also connect consumers with American made retailers and wholesalers through a massive compilation of American made businesses on their website. You may shop by product category or by company. Check out their website for compelling reasons to buy American and eye opening American manufacturing statistics.

Whether you support the American-made small businesses through The Marketplace or by joining one of the above organizations, when you support the American-made cause, we all win. To learn more about the remarkable entrepreneurs in The Marketplace, take a look at all of our small businesses here.
