WEEEEEEEEEEE': FoxNews.com Explains Technical Glitch That Made Site Appear Hacked

FoxNews.com appeared to experience an epic homepage hack Tuesday afternoon, but the problem was quickly fixed and explained as an internal issue.

Here are a few screenshots showing the website at the time:

Most headlines on the news site appeared to be legitimate, albeit recycled and older, content, but other elements on the site were off.

The main video did not work and had the headline "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE."

Placeholder text like "STUFF YO" cropped up in a couple places on the site as well.

As of approximately 3:02 p.m., the site appeared to function normally.

Fox News tweeted that it was experiencing some internal issues and was working to fix them.

Here are a few of the thoughts from those who took to Twitter to speculate about the cause before more information about the situation was provided:

Later, Fox News sent TheBlaze a statement offering more details about the problem.

“During routine website maintenance, a home page prototype was accidentally moved to the actual site. As with any mistake in testing, engineers noticed the error and quickly brought the site back to its normal function," Chief Digital Officer Jeff Misenti said in a statement.
