MSNBC host and former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough said Tuesday that he thinks President Barack Obama believes the American people are not intelligent.
Scarborough made the comments while discussing how the Affordable Care Act was sold to the American people, saying he thinks the president believes his "if you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan" pledge is one he can backtrack on without the public noticing.
"We are all just the dumbest people on the planet," a passionate Scarborough said, "And why don't we get it and why aren't we as elevated as he is above the fray when in fact he just didn't tell Americans the truth for three years."
Historian Jon Meacham also said during the segment the American people "are not all as slow perhaps as he thinks we are."
Scarborough's comments come just days after The New York Times published an editorial saying Obama only “misspoke” when making the promise and dismissed criticism as an “overblown controversy.”
On Tuesday, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wassermann Schultz said that “nothing” Obama said about the Affordable Care Act “was not true.”
