Sex columnist and liberal activist Dan Savage said this week that sometimes he thinks "abortion should be mandatory" as a solution to what he said was Earth's overpopulation problem.
Savage, on a panel at an Australian event, was asked by an audience member to provide a "dangerous idea" that would change the world for the better.
"Population control. There's too many goddamn people on the planet," Savage told the laughing audience.
"You know, I'm pro-choice, I believe that women should have a right to control their bodies," he continued. "Sometimes in my darker moments, I'm anti-choice. I think abortion should be mandatory for about 30 years."
Savage, an outspoken liberal, made news earlier this week after it was reported he was paid $24,000 to deliver a graphic sex speech at a public university in October.
