Actor from 'Fast & Furious' Movie Franchise Dies in Car Crash

The driver lost control and crashed the vehicle into a tree.

Actor Paul Walker, known around the world for his starring roles in the popular "Fast & Furious" series of car-focused heist movies, died today in a car crash, according to ABC News, citing Walker's representative. He was 40 years old.

"Sadly I must confirm that Paul did pass away this afternoon," Ame Van Iden said in an email, ABC reported.

TMZ reported that Walker was in a Porsche when the driver lost control and crashed the vehicle into a tree.

The Santa Clarita Signal reported that a red Porsche crashed into a light pole and tree and burst into flames.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station confirmed in a statement to Us Weekly that there were two fatalities in a traffic collision at approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

A vehicle engulfed in flames was found and extinguished by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, noted KNBC-TV in Los Angeles. Authorities found two people inside the vehicle after the fire was extinguished, officials said, adding that the two victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Walker's official Facebook page issued the following post:

It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. - #TeamPW

Walker was working on the latest "Fast & Furious" movie at the time of his death. He also starred in the suspense drama, "Hours," a movie that is set for release this month.
