Officials Launch Investigation Into Vicious Daycare Center Brawl After Footage Surfaces

"He was in such a rage when he went back there."

State officials in Georgia launched a formal investigation Thursday into a vicious brawl that took place last year in an Atlanta daycare center.

Footage of the fight, which was first aired by WSB-TV, shows a parent and at least two facility workers stumbling around, swinging their fists at each other and crashing into baby cribs.

David Gray, the parent allegedly involved in the fight, said daycare workers attacked him while he was holding his one-year-old son. But police said Gray started the fight after workers at the McGarity School of Prep in McDonough, Ga., told him his son would be suspended from the center.

"He was in such a rage when he went back there. The reason I say that is he walked by his own child a couple of times," Detective Thomas Spangenberg told WSB-TV of the Dec. 2012 incident.

Gray was arrested at the time, but the charges were recently dropped.

The father, who has asked the state to investigate the facility and its employees, reportedly told police the daycare center employees attacked him first and wouldn’t let him leave with his child.

"We are very concerned about the kids at that day care for their safety," Gray's attorney, David Scott, told WSB-TV.

The daycare owner, Ericka Broadway, claims Gray slapped her and she was only defending herself.

Officials with the Georgia Department of Early Care said in a statement that they’ll look into the incident.

"We have no records indicating that this alleged incident at McGarity School of Prep, at 1285 McGarity Road in McDonough, Georgia, was ever reported to our agency by the provider, the parent or local authorities. As a result of receiving this video from December 13, 2012, we are opening an investigation into the incident," said Chief Communications Officer Reg Griffin.
