Yet Another Horrific Execution Occurs in Egypt at the Hands of the Muslim Brotherhood

News out of Egypt may be falling from the headlines after the coup that forced the ouster of former President Mohammed Morsi in July, but the country has far from stabilized.

On Monday, according to the state-run al-Ahram newspaper, Muslim Brotherhood supporters killed a taxi driver by slitting his throat before setting his car on fire.

The taxi driver - identified as both Mohamed Othman and Mohammad Badr depending on the source - was accused of striking a female protester with his car after the crowd would not let him pass. The woman is in critical condition, according to a pro-Brotherhood Facebook page called "Al-Azhar University in Mansoura."

The coroner's report, according to Al Ahram, said the taxi driver had a deep stab wound to the chest in addition to others on his neck and back.

The driver's father condemned the Muslim Brotherhood in an interview with Al Arabiya News, calling them "infidels" who know nothing about religion. The father also said he thinks his son was attacked because of an image of Egypt's army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi displayed on his car.

Security forces are investigating the murder, and currently have at least nine suspects.

Thousands attended the taxi driver's funeral on Tuesday, reportedly calling for retribution against the Muslim Brotherhood.

As the BBC notes, security has all but disintegrated in Egypt in the years since the so-called "Arab Spring" swept the country's longtime leader Hosni Mubarak from power. During the brief term of his successor, Mohammed Morsi, there were a number of public executions and increased instability.

In the wake of the coup, protests, clashes and trials of Islamists have become a daily occurrence in Egypt, sparking cycles of violence mainly between security forces and Morsi supporters demanding the reinstatement of the man they consider the legitimate president.

Egypt's security forces clashed with supporters of the former Islamist president at several universities across the country on Tuesday, as an explosive device detonated in a residential area of the capital but caused no injuries or damage.
