Tennessee authorities are searching for an armed man who managed to steal a squad car Saturday morning after he was handcuffed and placed into police custody.

According to WREG, Steven Melton, 58, kicked open a police car's window and drove off of the scene — all while restrained in handcuffs.

The events unfolded after police confiscated an active meth lab, pipe bombs and weapons while attempting to serve a warrant on the man.

Lauderdale County Sheriff Steve Sanders said when officers were leaving the scene they were called back into the home. That's when the man kicked through the squad car's Plexiglas window, settled into the driver's seat and drove away, according to WMC-TV.

Several hours later authorities located the stolen stolen SUV, but Melton was no longer around. A helicopter searching the scene was unable to locate him.

Police say Melton is considered armed and very dangerous and urge individuals to call authorities if they should see him.
