Check Out Smith & Wesson's New Beast of a Revolver: The 'Backpack Cannon

“It’s a very comfortable gun to shoot."

It’s being called the “Backpack Cannon” — and for good reason.

Last Monday, Smith & Wesson unveiled its new .460-caliber revolver at the annual SHOT show in Las Vegas.

The five-shooter, which features a three-inch barrel, high-visibility sights and a synthetic stock with a shock absorber on the end of the handle, was touted by the major gun manufacturer as an ideal gun for placing in one’s backpack while embarking on outdoor adventures, according to KRMG.

“It’s a very comfortable gun to shoot,” Paul Pluff, the company’s director of marketing services, said in an interview with Military.com. “A great gun for a back-up gun in the backcountry or even for hunting if you’re going after some pigs or hogs or anything like that.”

The firearm, retailing for $1,200, can also fire Casull .454 rounds and .45 Long Colt ammo, KRMG reported.

It will reportedly be marketed to civilians and law enforcement.
