Should the President Be Above That?': CNN's Don Lemon Grills Democratic Strategist Over Obama's Jabs at Fox News

"...you don’t punch down."

CNN host Don Lemon questioned a Democratic strategist Friday, asking if President Barack Obama can "really blame Fox News for his troubles."

Lemon first noted a recent statement by the president, in which Obama said "the issue has been the inability of my message to penetrate the Republican base so that they feel persuaded that I'm not the caricature that you see on Fox News or Rush Limbaugh."

"Can the president really blame Fox News for his problems?" Lemon then asked. "I mean, there are liberal outlets that do the same thing on the other side."

Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen, however, insisted that "his words and his intentions are completely blown out of proportion by, I mean, not just Fox News — by so many in the Republican Party."

But Lemon pushed back.

"The question is should the president be above that?” he asked. “Isn’t the president above that? Like, you don’t punch down."
