“I am proud to have my close friend, constituent and small business owner, Willie Robertson, attend tonight’s State of the Union Address as my special guest," McAllister said in a statement. "Willie is thankful for this opportunity and honored to attend. I look forward to the two of us representing the Fifth District in D.C. this evening and bringing some diversity to our nation’s capitol.”

McAllister was elected to Congress in November in a special election. Roberton, whose father Phil was recently embroiled in controversy over comments he made about race relations in the South and gays, campaigned for McAllister during his race.

Robertson isn't the only star to attend the event. Jason Collins, the first male U.S. pro athlete to come out as gay, will also attend as a guest of first lady Michelle Obama.

The speech begins Tuesday night 9 p.m. ET.

Correction: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated that Willie Robertson was recently embroiled in controversy over comments he made about race relations in the South and gays. It was Phil Robertson, Willie's father, who made the remarks.
