Is Hit-and-Run Driver's Sentence Sufficient After What He Did to Young Mother and Her Infant Son?

Watching surveillance video of what happened to Aireanna Currier and her infant son last summer, you might say they're both lucky to be alive.

A minivan driver is seen backing into Currier, then 18, and her son Elijah, who was in a stroller.

The minivan knocked Currier down in a store parking lot and became attached to Elijah's stroller — with the then-18-month-old still in it — and started driving out of the parking lot. Currier was able to get to her feet, rush to her son, and extract him from the stroller before the vehicle drove off with the stroller still attached.

"My adrenaline kicked in," she told WDIV.

Well, the man responsible for the June 25, 2013 incident just got his punishment.

Muskegon County (Mich.) District Judge Andrew Wierengo III gave 21-year-old Antonio K. Raglin 30 days in jail after he pleaded no-contest to failure to stop at the scene of an injury accident and driving with a suspended license, reported WDIV-TV in Detroit.

Police said the child wasn't hurt in the incident, and Currier had a scraped knee.

Raglin has been jailed since Sept. 22 on weapons and other charges in a shooting case.
