AMC Perfectly Pulls Off Cruel (and Genius) ‘Walking Dead’ Prank on Unsuspecting New Yorkers

As part of a viral marketing campaign leading up the return of “The Walking Dead,” the hit show's crew took to the streets of New York City to absolutely horrify unsuspecting New Yorkers.

After giving the “zombies” with the ultra-real look regularly seen on the show, the crew sent the undead creatures to “infest a sidewalk grate.” As pedestrians walk by, they are unpleasantly surprised when creepy zombie hands reach through the grate and try to grab them.

The video of the prank is going viral and has nearly 500,000 views in one day. “The Walking Dead” returns this Saturday at 9 p.m. ET.
