An embittered Baldwin took to the latest issue of New York magazine so he could air out his grievances with MSNBC, where he worked briefly in 2013 before being fired. In a first-person article, Baldwin lashed out at MSNBC President Phil Griffin and the channel's on-air talent, including Rachel Maddow, describing her as "phony."

"You may disagree with her ( or agree ) but she is not a phony," Van Susteren wrote on her Gretawire blog Monday. "She has strong views.  You may think she is dead wrong or dead right…or something in between...but she is not phony."

Van Susteren went on to say Baldwin's remark was "insulting" and that she was "stepping forward" to vouch for Maddow's authenticity.
