Woman Goes From Fiance to Bride in Just a Matter of Hours After Her Man Plans the Surprise of a Lifetime

"Oh my gosh. What!?"

"You're crazy."

That's what Carly Butler had to say to her fiancé Adam Verheyen after she read a letter -- with him sitting next to her -- that said she wasn't going to their engagement party that day but to their wedding. It was a surprise for guests as well who thought they would be celebrating only an engagement.

"There is no effort in loving you. It's like I was born to do it," Butler read from Adam's letter. "For the last few months, I have been planning an engagement party with several people -- mainly your momma -- to show, allow all of our friends and family to see us together engaged."

Butler explained to TheBlaze Monday that not many people had seen them engaged because Verheyen had proposed in England in Jan. 2013 where she was spending six months retracing her grandmother's steps through the 110 love letters she had written her grandfather after WWII. Last year, on the anniversary of each of her grandmother's letters, Butler recreated her activities, and she's now compiling her adventure about doing so into a book.

At some point in planning an engagement party for Butler's return to Canada last summer, her fiancé switched to planning a wedding instead.

"What I'm trying to tell you is today is not our engage-," Butler continued before taking a deep breath, "engagement party, it is our wedding."

At this point, Verheyen presented Butler with a calla lily bouquet as she continued to read that everything had been booked, planned and scheduled not for the May 24, 2014, date they had agreed upon but a surprise on that day -- Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013.

"Oh my gosh. What!?" she said, continuing to read but looking still relatively calm for just learning she would be getting married that day. "Is your heart pounding? Because mine is."

The video goes on to show Butler getting ready for the big event, guests' reaction, the nuptials and the party afterward. Though it was posted in Dec. 2013, the video is just now going viral, which Butler thinks happened initially because it made it onto the site Godvine.

"I was a little overwhelmed to be honest," Butler told TheBlaze of the video getting thousands of hits in the last few days. "But Adam, he … he’s not phased by it."

But what was Butler really thinking that day -- it's safe to say many a bride would not be as cool and collected about a surprise wedding -- and how did Adam know just what she would like?

"It was like, excitement and once it sunk in I thought 'Sweet, I don’t have to plan a wedding,'" Butler said. "Theres’ a lot of work to plan a wedding. I felt relief and felt disbelief and thinking that he’s crazy, but I’m crazy too so it’s a good match."

Still, "there was that panic moment of 'Oh God, I hope he did everything right.'"

Once she saw that he did, she said she relaxed.

Verheyen did have special insights into knowing what Butler thought was important for the wedding. She said they had a Pinterest board to share ideas and that he knew what her main priorities were:

  1. I would be marrying him.
  2. I wanted to have nice hair.
  3. I wanted a big dance floor and band.
  4. And I wanted the day documented.

Also, in case you were wondering, Butler had already picked out her wedding dress when her mother came to visit in England.

Though she says she was "on cloud 9" overall that day, she said she did have a "bride moment" and made a change to the bridesmaids dresses, asking that they wear just a black dress instead.

Watch the touching video:

As for their originally scheduled wedding date -- May 24 -- Butler said she's not sure what Adam is planning.

"We need to take that day off and just be together," she said.
