According to Madison police, three individuals, who were executing a planned home invasion, broke into the wrong home on Feb. 23. However, while the suspects were aware that they were at the incorrect residence, they didn't leave, WKOW-TV reported.

Instead, police say the suspects violently attacked the two individuals sleeping in the home and repeatedly sexually assaulted the woman, who was six months pregnant. The attack lasted 40 to 50 minutes, authorities said, according to the Journal Sentinel.

"I can tell you that in my 27-plus years of policing here in Madison, this is probably one of the most disturbing and heinous crimes that I've ever seen," Interim Chief Randy Gaber said.

After the suspects had left, the two victims reportedly walked to a neighbor's home for help. There was no answer, so the two had to walk to a nearby business to dial 911. They were each taken to a hospital and treated for their injuries, which authorities did not elaborate on, according to WKOW-TV.

"We don't see senseless brutality like this very often," said Julie Foley, with Dane County's Victim Assistance program. "We can help facilitate recovery just by being the community that we are."

Police have charged Kristopher Hughes, 20, Michon Thomas, 22, and Eric Bass, 23, each with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed robbery. The suspects were all further charged with six counts of first degree sexual assault, WKOW-TV reported.

Hughes reportedly faces an additional charge of substantial battery while armed and unauthorized use of an individual's identifying information. Thomas also faces the latter charge.

In the past week, three others were also arrested and accused of conspiracy to commit armed robbery. According to WKOW-TV, those individuals are Efemia Neumaier, 21, DeAndre Mayweathers, 23, and Demarco Mallit, 22. Mallit also faces other charges of aiding a felon and theft.
