Oklahoma Officer’s Heart-Stopping Near-Death Experience Caught on Camera

"We feel like God's hand was on Sergeant Brad Rummell."

An officer in Midwest City, Okla., narrowly escaped severe bodily harm — or possibly death — when a distracted driver plowed into his police cruiser during a routine traffic stop.

Sgt. Brad Rummell was walking back to his patrol car when he spotted a distracted driver speeding towards him. He had about a second to react.

Somehow, Rummell was able think quick and jump to safety before the car crashed into him and the driver he had stopped for a traffic violation.

The driver responsible for the accident was reportedly on her cellphone and didn’t see the police car until it was too late.

The cars involved in the accident were totaled. The distracted driver was given a ticket for inattentive driving and faces $295 in fines.

"We are always in harm's way [during traffic stops], and when something like this happens, it just makes us count our blessings that we don't have an officer that is dead or seriously injured," Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes told KWTV.

"We feel like God's hand was on Sergeant Brad Rummell,” he added.
