Things Get Really Uncomfortable When Joy Behar Decides to Roast Gov. Chris Christie at Someone Else’s Roast
April 08, 2014
"Why don’t you get up here at the microphone instead of being such a coward?"
Last week, comedian Joy Behar delivered an stinging roast of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at an event that was supposed to be a roast of former New Jersey Gov. Brendan Byrne.
As The New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza reported, Behar spent more time taking shots at Christie, who was sitting right next to her.
"When I first heard that he was accused of blocking off three lanes on the bridge, I said, ‘What the hell is he doing, standing in the middle of the bridge?'" Behar joked.
She also said Christie had his eyes on the “House of Pancakes” before the White House.
At one point, Christie actually jokingly interrupted her to tell her it was a Byrne roast. Behar then told the governor to “stop bullying me,” prompting a reaction from the crowd.
"Why don’t you get up here at the microphone instead of being such a coward?" Behar said.
"Really, is that what you're thinking? At least I don't get paid for this," Christie replied.
“Who would pay you to do this?” Behar quipped back.
“I was just thinking the same thing about you,” Christie responded.
Just as things got almost too tense to handle, Behar ended her set by saying she didn’t mind that Christie is “pissed off” at her because she was “taking mass transit home.”
