"It's unbelievable."
John Hess was sleeping inside his recently purchased mobile home in Coahoma County, Miss., late last week when a strong storm blew through, flattening the homestead and blowing the man onto a gravel road.
Despite hanging on in a Memphis, Tenn., hospital for a few days, Hess succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, his daughter told WMC.

"He's the strongest man I know," Jennifer Brockway said. "We thought he was making it through all that. He could survive anything."
"He did everything right in his life," Brockway added. "I hope that my kids can grow up and be half the man that he was."
The storm with 60 mph wind gusts blew through the treeless area, destroying Hess' home and damaging others early Friday morning. The storm sent the man's mattress into the middle of a field. When Hess woke on the ground, he crawled to a nearby tractor and drove to a friend's home for help.
